The Departed
The movie begins with "I don't wanna be a product of my environment, I want my environment to be a product of me". Setting the rite tone for the movie. Its as though Martin is trying to say to the audience "Don't expect the run the mill stuff from me, i am going to decide wat movie i want to make rather than being dictated by the box office".
Unlike most of the Hollywood movies that depend on computer graphics and digital imagery this one holds the audience on the edge of their seats with an amazing script, brilliant performance from the cast and some witty dialogues.
The movie is set in Boston, where the state police is waging war against the underworld and the story tracks two protagonists who are undercover in order to make sure that their fellow counterparts have a upper hand in the war they are waging Both are unawares of the fact that their paths are going to cross each others paths leaving a bloody mess behind.
Leonardo as the undercover cop, who has so many feelings hidden within him but cannot find a way to express the way he feels when he is forced into something he detests, pulls of a wonderful performance (looks like he has finally come of age from his Romeo Juliet and beach days). Matt is equally brilliant as a cop who is constantly grappling with the fear of his identity being revealed and so are the rest of the cast. But the real star is Jack who steals the show with his portrayal of the ganglord who cannot figure out who is setting his fiefdom on fire. The scenes that show the transformation of ganglord with "no one can touch me" attitude to a insane person coming to terms with the fact that someone from his own gang is pulling the rug from under his feet are the best.
The other thing about the movie is the raw language used through out some may feel that language is bordering on the lines of vulgarity but thats the language that gangsters are supposed to use. That also explains why pvr shows a (A) (A) for this movie. If you are not too comfortable hearing the f word and other variants of the word then this movie will be a strain on your ears.
I have had the tough job of revealing as little of the storyline as possible so as to keep your interest in the movie ( i feel like the dress designer of Mallika, who has to make sure that she reveals enough to keep the audience interested and conceals enough to make them want to see more of her). Its pretty rare that you get to see these kinds of movies these days and its more fun to watch movies like this on the big screen than on your idiot box. I have already booked tickets for watching it a second time around on friday its time you grab your tickets at a theatre near you (i don't get any commission for promoting this movie i just want you folks to enjoy a good movie).
